This song has a really cool story behind it. Before I leave on any big trips I always go to a certain mountain in Thousand Oaks, California where I grew up to pray and meditate and listen to what exactly it is I need to hear. After coming back from staying in Boston for a while I went to this mountain and found myself hearing a song during my meditation. The song was so clear to me and accompanied the words to Mary Baker Eddy's "Daily Prayer." I got so excited that I started singing it and, since I didn't want to forget it, I ended up running down this giant mountain screaming the song at the top of my lungs. Kind of a silly visual, but very much true. When I got back to my car I broke out my iPad and used the recording device to record the song. Later, after coming home, I worked it out on the piano and on my next trip to Boston shared it with Nate and the It's About Good crew, and he came up with a guitar part for it that is featured on the version we used on the album.
This is a really special song because the Daily Prayer is such an important affirmation for us each to make each day. It's one of the only prayers Mary Baker Eddy gives that has us specifically focus on ourselves, "be established in me…" So instead of just repeating it over and over like a boring mantra, why not sing it? Bring that same energy that Life, Truth and Love have to our expression of affirming it for ourselves!
This prayer has brought huge insight to me and has helped me learn to "let go and let God." It was once called the "mind your own business prayer." Know that God is taking care of everything — stop stressing out like you control the universe! Now that's definitely an idea I want to sing about. And I do each and every day!
