about

Man - this track is crazy! About getting a tune for "Daily Prayer", I wanted to keep being able to sing the prayers that are so important to our daily practice of Christian Science. So I started messing around with the prayer, expanding on what God really is, as well as switching things around to rhyme and loved being able to have a rap with rhythm and feeling rather than just repeating a string of words each and every day. When I approached the collective with the track they were all really enthusiastic, but didn't really understand how we would make it happen. So this track took the longest to piece together. We first had the chorus with a guitar riff, but no beat for the verses that needed to universally accessible and easy to understand for the everyday listener. This is probably the realest track for me because I was able to tap my years of experience going to dance clubs and playing video games - something a lot of people in the world are familiar with.
I had used the bouncer and karate metaphors frequently when trying to explain Christian Science to people who had no religious background - and it always worked pretty well. So this track is absolutely dedicated to all of my dear gamers and ravers out there. I thought it would be cool to throw in some skits to this track because the verses were so silly - and so that's what we threw in.
The second verse uses a beat that I remember hearing on this awesome video game music remix site called ocremix.org. While living in China I wiped my hard drive clean of all of my music when I realized how powerful the media we consume and let into our thought is. For that time I listened to a few audio books and a small collection of artists (BT, NSync's Christmas album, Nujabes…that's about it). The largest contingency of these artists came from ocremix.org so I have much to be grateful for. Plus, unlike Youtube, ocremix wasn't blocked while I was in China! I contacted the producer of the Streetfighter beat through Facebook and told him about the project and sent him a link to the track. He gave me the A-OK to use the beat.
The final part of the track uses the well-known legend of Scooby Doo and Shaggy. These guys were serious Christian Scientists. All they did was take the masks off of unreal beliefs and bring solutions to people's problems. I'm telling you - deep metaphysics were behind that idea! So it was only right to bring them into this fun, uninhibited track and, of course, back flip into a tree.

lyrics

Manual of The Mother Church 42: 4-10
Ephesians 6:11-17

Defend yourself daily
against mental suggestion,
never to be made to forget nor neglect them:
God: Principle, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, Mind.
Following our leader for the love of mankind.
By your works shall you be condemned or justified.
If you're feeling what I'm saying
throw your hands high.
If you feel on defense
make your mind get right.
Cause consent is the secret to human experience.
Jesus said: "Watch."
What's in your mental interior?

Be a bouncer at the club, your mind's party so live.
Line wrapped around the corner, with some thoughts that want inside.
So you gotta be focused when you checkin' ID.
Fly looking honeys comin’' in - none unsightly.
Some wear sunglasses - make sure to check the eyes.
You can always smell their breaths for where their motive lies.
Even if a fight breaks out you must never leave your stand,
and be very careful about to who you give wrist bands.
Cause you're guarding your spot,
you're defending your consciousness.
Who you let inside will determine the atmosphere.

[Let into the club:]
This one's chillin - come inside.
This one's fiending - stay outside.
This one's beautiful - come inside.
This one's wasted - stay outside!
This one is looking spiritual, oh yeah, come inside.
This one is looking real good, hm hm, wait, ah, nah! nah!

Be a street fighter - this is mortal combat
Round 1 Fight! Now Blanka’s coming atcha.
Counter its attack with a seven hit combo.
Everything before now has prepared you for this battle.
You can't be paralyzed, hypnotized, or otherwise,
made to believe you're defenseless, nah, you are Semper Fi!
This is ultimate fighting, UFC,
can't compare with the violence that's mentally
happening every day.
Whether or not you meditate
you still must yoga flame
any M. Bison's away.
They’re trying to control you.
This is a problem around the world,
your defense must be global!
All systems on alert,
from Chung-lis in China to Balrog’s in Vegas.
We're all street fighters so we must defend
against the Vegas, Sagats, Cammys, and Akumas.
Get up the Guile to step up and Sonic Boom! them.

Jab right, duck, slide to the side,
front kick, uppercut, you must not abide.
Get it in a chokehold,
bind the strongman up,
take it to the ground.
A suggestion is helpless once it's been found out!
And I know now.
Strip away your mask, like Scooby Doo.

“Hey Raggy?
I found a bad guy!”

“Oh, no Scoob!
I’m a little bit afraid.”

“No, Raggy! No need to be afraid!
It’s an illusion!”

“Oh, thank goodness, Scoob.
I thought it was a real bad guy!”

“Can I have some Scooby snacks?”
“Of course, Scoob. Of course.”

Then I backflip into a tree.
