about

I started writing this track a while back founded on the concept of what real rebuke was. How do we really rebuke people? Do we have the right to chew them out and criticize them we know they've done something wrong? I grappled with this for a while until I looked closely at Jesus' temptation in the wilderness. It became clear to me that Jesus was never actually fighting with a person called Satan. Jesus never rebuked people. He rebuked the falsities that would seem to appear as people. So the rebuke is really passing the mic in love, the rebuked are, in reality, beautiful flowers.
The whole first verse was changed at the end of our last recording session to focus entirely on the seven churches with letters written to them in chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation. If you look closely at the letters, they are almost all rebukes from John. But they are written so beautifully, so sincerely, that they don't come across as attacks. John, like Paul, really wanted to strengthen church members into practicing Christians. That's the same mission we in It's About Good feel today.
The second verse takes a super metaphysical take on Biblical fragments and a kind of traditional hiphop riff on the journey of life. It may take listeners a few plays, or more, but it's worth it. My favorite thing about hiphop as a form of communication is how completely authentic the voice of the artist can be without hiding or veiling themselves. Hiphop forces the artist to just come out and say it and challenges the listener to hold on and come along for the ride. I always have fun blending scientific ideas with Biblical language through metaphysical metaphors. In that way, this track is really a field day.
The semi-chorus at the end "Love alone is power…" is drawn from the beloved hymn 179 in the Christian Science hymnal. In light of that statement, what is a rebuke, really? Something to certainly think about, isn't it?

lyrics

Revelation Chapters 2 and 3
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures 30:26-32

“And you know it.”

I have to rap to rebuke;
I had to run away to come home .
I have to pass the mic to you now I know I'm not alone.
Feel the soulful tone,
the insecurities are gone.
Let's run the race of Spirit
hear the sound: pow! we gone.
“He that hath an ear
let him hear”
Hello, Pergamos!
Stop the false witness,
you Smyrnian hypocrites.
Without working the words are dead so live with it
I feel the ghost in me can I give it up? Ephesus.
Love - lead me to where my treasure is.
My cup will you fill it up ?
It spills over sip it up.
Philly go get em' up -
holy and true -
seven stars of Sardis,
be watchful, and prove.
"I know what you do"
Thyatira.
Heat it up,
Laodicea,
or out the mouth I'll spew.
Let the Word make measurements.
Stay right inside infinity, no need for the settlements.
The New Jerusalem is only living in your consciousness.
So bombard them with bombs all you want,
but you'll never be in control of it
until we all feel peace, peace,
I'll roll with it,
flow with it like Hiddekel
yes, I'm spiritual.
So sincere like Psalms we’re lyrical,
like John we’re visual,
so we see the sea disappear in a dream how integral
to understanding this human equation.
So tired of waiting.
Even though we fell asleep,
he still had his revelation.
Never forsaken, always awakening.
On the mental mountain
close the closet, enter in.
When we step outside the world is totally different.

You know the most stubborn people
are the most beautiful flowers.

Patterns in fragments,
fractals in lanterns,
mathematic samples.
Magdalen in the candles,
falsettos in the shadows,
Gepetto screaming “Monstro.”
Judas scuffing scandals,
while Samuel plays pianos.
Lay you down like the sabbath:
No more trauma.
Here we rest in peace:
skull and crossbones conquered,
There is no more Hamlet, so you can scratch the tragic
“there is nothing good or bad”
but thinking makes it happen.
Freeways of mental pastures -
no more traffic -
at the speed of Mind blowing past it.
Matter is captured,
truth is never tattered,
quantum truth impacts it
by factual actions.
Heroes discover habitats,
disciples are recording tracks.
Church just so happens to be wherever you are at
as long as you live in Love -
always remember that
enemies are the most beautiful flowers.
Always harvest waiting
to collect every hour.
So recognize these faces
don't forget to say thank you .
We all are connected
from LA to Chengdu.
Listening to ourselves in the forms of another.
Conversations eternal, diving deeper under
through waves and through wormholes.
We are breathing greeting cards,
thinking, singing, bringing
joy to every other.
For the first time in forever:
I know that Love is the only power.

Love alone, love alone is power.
Simple and clean like a heavenly flower.
Love alone, love alone is power.
Simple and clean like a heavenly flower.

You know your most stubborn people
are the most beautiful flowers.
You know the most stubborn people
are the most beautiful flowers.

“And you know it.”
