lyrics

Angels entertaining me unawares -
we're all in the city.
We're all in the city.
We're all in the...

Angels entertaining me unawares -
we're all in the city.
we're all in the city.
We're all in the...

Angels are everywhere.
Open up your eyes and you'll see them.
Angels are everywhere.
Open up your heart and you'll free them.

Angels are everywhere.
Open up your eyes and you'll see them.
Angels are everywhere.
Open up your heart and you'll free them.

In the darkest places people fighting for their lives.
learning to strive instead of connive
hoping for some goodness
praying it will arrive.
A single drink from the fountain of life
that will revive
this man, this woman, rising up from the depths;
everyday like a gift thank God I haven't died.
Yet it takes so much courage just to take a single step,
but these angels of the lord are breaking free from the net.
They're showing life like a fire burning bright
despite a human history of tragedy, addiction, and fist fights.
Now necessity has thrown them up against the wall
so they stop trying to run before they learn how to crawl.
And now they're taking each step as if it really mattered.
drawing up pieces of a life that once was shattered.
Now there's nothing left to do but stand on the rock;
Now there's nothing left to do but walk the walk.
Here we go...

God's thoughts passing to woman,
God's thoughts passing to man.
Open up your hearts,
Open up your hands.
Can we ever really be outside the great I Am?
On every blade of grass
they sing to make 'em grow
muses, genius, don't you know?
I was once lost in the wilderness,
"Let my people go!"
But, like hard hearted Pharaoh,
my ego just said no.
My thoughts formed evil fiends that said they were friends
so I danced down a dead end street with them.
But a few feet in I met my first angel:
holding up a cup for change, filthy, holes in his hands.
Looking in his eyes I thought, "Is this the son of man?"
He asked if I had something to spare.
I said nothing.
He touched me, I lost all fear, and saw clearly for the first time.
Angels were everywhere:

Chopping carrots.
Sitting in traffic.
Checking in the mirror.
Paying bills.
Begging for change.
Playing in the park.
Watering someone else's lawn.
Crying their eyes out.
Dancing in the streets.
Praying to the Lord!

Angels are everywhere.
Angels are everywhere.
Angels are everywhere.
Angels are everywhere.
